Guiding elements for home planning
When we approach home design, there are different guidelines, style, planning functions and in addition there may be certain elements that we need to incorporate into the design.
In this house we were asked to think about two important elements for the clients in the design of the house, old gates, and floating stairs.
The gates were one of the first things the clients asked us to consider, they asked us to think of a way to incorporate an element of a pair of old gates from the parents' house. In a conversation with the client, she asked to incorporate them in any way we could, whether in display cases, hanging on walls, or using as entrance gates, we suggested that instead of "gluing" the element on the house, we design a certain space around them. We decided to put the gates in the entrance space, and that they would be the design element in this space.
Instead of just placing the gates, we created a double entrance door to the study, with all we did was add a frame and frosted glass to them.
The decision to use gates as a door actually gave us certain data to consider, the size of the opening into the study, the size of the study, and the size of the entryway – so that the door would not look disproportionate. The door added interest and uniqueness to the entryway and was a dominant
design element in the house.
